The sounds of Congo

My mom got in last night! Woohoo! We've had a full day. Took her to the market to get food this morning. We even rode the bus (I won't tell you about my mom falling into the lap of the guy behind her while both of us are lauging hysterically). One of my colleagues said "Way to jump in the deep end!"

One thing you notice about Congo is the sounds. We've been listening to chirping birds, a squealing monkey, dogs barking, salesmen hawking their wares...and gun fire/grenades. Like I said, we've had a full day. Welcome to Congo, Mom!

Things have suddenly taken a turn for the worse across the river in Kinshasa. We're staying up town and inside for the moment! Yeah, it's been a great first day for my mom :o)

Don't freak out, I'm sure we're safe here, but pray for the fighting to cease for the poor Kinshasans sake.

Hey El (and everybody!) Thanks for your concern. Here's what I can tell you at this point:

My mom and I are safe. My admin is in communication with the American embassy and is taking all the necessary precautions. Please pray for a return to peace in Kinshasa.

Things seem to be much better this evening, so I'm grateful for that. Life in Brazza has actually gone on pretty much as normal. The fighting does not involve this country.

I'm itching to share more, but I can't without getting it approved first and it's 11:25 pm. So you'll just have to wait :o)

One of these days I have to tell you about the story of how my pastor having somebody attempting to steal some motorcycle sprockets out from his car. My pastor watched in the act! He said he couldn't run too well because he was wearing a pair of sandals. He had said they weren't exactly sandals....I'm assuming they were a flimsy pair of sandals that had inhibited him from running fast enough at that necesary moment. Anyways, Another man who was with my pastor....(younger than him) charged after the thief. All my pastor could think of at that very moment was, "What am I getting myself into????!!!!" After all, it's not the greatest predicament to have oneself in....you know, legal matters in a foreign country! Well, to make a VERY LONG story short, the cops had caught the bad guy & brought the man to my pastor & asked him "What do you wanna do with this man"? My pastor thought to himself, "I really just wanna get over with all this mess and go home." So, my pastor asked the thief, "What were you doing in my car?" Our pastor told the congregation that the thief shot back at him with quite a colorful remark towards my pastor. So then, my pastor said, "You know that I have the choice to send you to jail?" "Now what just said to me.... I didn't quite care for. Now, I'm giving you a second chance to tell me what you were doing in my car? He said it under his breath the third time,& my pastor was unable to make out what he said. So, the thief finally admitted to my pastor that he had been stealing. Then my pastor found that this was a great opportunity for him to preach the Gospel to this man. ☺ He told the man, "You know, God knows when we sin & He knows the guilt we feel at that time...." and so on and so forth. Well, to end this beautiful story, the man agreed to accept Christ as his Lord and Savior that day! Coool, huh????!!!! ☺ You should also know there was a whole crowd of people watching the whole scene I am "rewinding" back to you! ☺ I'm sure you are fully aware that news travels quick in
Kinshasa! ☺ This story simply portrays the sovereignty of the Lord in this situation, doesn't it? ☺

I noticed a few grammatical errors as I was typing this tedious story. I really DO know how to spell "necessary". I'm sure you already knew that! ☺ Plus, the time at which I typed this wasn't at "2:09 AM!" ☺ That definitely will never be the case! That time is inaccurate; and it has always been. But, whatever! That's the least of my worries! ☺ Just thought I'd let ya know! ☺
