Wow, the city is so much different than I had expected! I’m not sure why I always some places are going to be so primitive, remember I thought I wasn’t even going to be get my hair colored in Ireland… I imagined some huts, not buildings with multiple floors! I have so much traveling I still need to do. Glad you arrived safely, can’t wait to read about your next adventure!
Yeah, this is a fairly modern city. It's got over a million people I think. When I travel out to do surveys in villages, that's when I'll see the huts and more traditional lifestyle. I was surprised to have toilets that work just like at home. In Thailand you have to dump a bucket of water in to flush and in Mexico you have to put the TP in a basket. We can't drink the tap water, though, or even use it to brush our teeth. And the electricity often gets turned off. So yeah, I can either consider this to be really inconvenient modern life or think "Wow! Look at all this great stuff we've got in Africa."
You had to dump a bucket of water to flush in Thailand?! And my reaction was either... 1) "Egad! What am I getting into?!" ;-) or 2) "You should've asked for a different room at the CM Hill 2000... our toilet flushed just fine!" :)
Yep - #2's the right one! Sorry to hear yours didn't work! ;)
OK, John, don't you remember that I didn't stay at the hotel? And I'm guessing you won't be either when you move there! Sorry, but not everywhere in Thailand has the Western ammenities of the Chiang Mai Hill Hotel.
"We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well." The Apostle Paul to the Church of the Thessalonians
